Gessika was nominated for Aupair of the Year Award, and she was one of the five finalist to this award.

Memphis, TN - February 21, 2007 - Caring, dependable childcare is hard to find and exceptional childcare even rarer. But the Frampton family recently struck gold when they welcomed Brazilian au pair Gessika Forti Campanati into their home. Forti provides live-in childcare for the Frampton’s five children, and her outstanding dedication and enthusiasm in caring for them has led the Framptons to nominate Forti for “Au Pair of the Year.” Sponsored by the International Au Pair Association, the Au Pair of the Year Award honors au pairs who are caring, dependable and exceptional providers of childcare to their host family.

Gessika is living with the Framptons family in Cordova as part of the Cultural Care Au Pair intercultural exchange and childcare program. She cares for the family’s host children, twins four years old and triplets two years old, in exchange for the opportunity to live in the United States, take classes at an American university, and become part of a real American family.

“Our Au Pair does an exceptional job caring for our children.  My husband and I feel comfortable leaving Gessika to care for all five of our children.  She spends time with the triplets teaching them how to talk by using flash cards, books and other examples.  With our twins she enjoys teaching them words in Portuguese and reading to them. Most of all the children love her child spirit.  My twins think of our Au Pair as a best friend.  She loves to take them swimming or to play outside.  She enjoys thinking of new ideas or things for our children to do each day.  She keeps their safety in mind while ensuring that they have a great time.  She also makes each child feel special in their own way by spending as much individual time with them as possible.” said Jane Frampton.

The International Au Pair Association established the Au Pair of the Year Award to recognize the many great young men and women participating in the au pair program, a demanding cultural exchange and childcare experience.

Gessika has gone above and beyond to create a healthy and enriching environment for her host children, while also challenging herself to learn a new language and culture. She is a great role model for her host children and other young women in the community,” said Vicky Elkins, local childcare coordinator for Cultural Care Au Pair. “Gessika’s commitment and dedication to her host family and community certainly make her the ‘Au Pair of the Year’ in Memphis.”

For all of her qualities and her hard work, let’s congratulate Gessika. She got to be one of the five finalist in this award.

GERMANTOWN, TN February, 2007 – According to statistics, adults over the age of 60 and children under the age of 5 are more likely than any other age groups to be harmed in the case of a fire emergency.  Recognizing this, on January 25, 2008, area Cultural Care au pairs from the towns of Collierville, Germantown, Memphis and Cordova met at the Farmington fire station in Germantown for a fire safety meeting hosted by Cultural Care Au Pair and members of the Germantown Fire Department.

According to Local Childcare Coordinator Vicky Elkins, educating au pairs on fire safety is a top priority for parents. “Au pairs are often the primary caregivers for many local families during the day. Fire safety training is important because it reinforces their knowledge of what to do if there is an emergency, starting with getting themselves and the children out of the house should a fire break out.”

The training is part of Cultural Care Au Pair’s ongoing Continuing Education Program (CEP). As a U.S. Department of State regulated program, au pairs receive safety and childcare education throughout their year long stay in the United States, beginning with a week of intensive courses at the Cultural Care Au Pair School in New York. The Memphis/Shelby au pairs together represent the countries of Peru, Colombia, El Salvador, Ukraine, Russia, Germany, and Brazil. Vicky Elkins, a resident of Memphis, supports area parents and au pairs, advising them of educational opportunities, as well as organizing fun activities for the entire extended family to enjoy.

“I am always looking for ways to make safety training and education fun for our au pairs,” said Vicky Elkins. According to Elkins, the training given by the firefighters was great. The covered everything from smoke detectors to safely and quickly getting out of a home in the case of a fire, how to use a fire extinguisher, how to prevent fire at home, what to do in case of fire at home, equipment used by firefighter, firefighter’s role en case of emergency not only with fire. So aupairs learn how American firefighters handle an emergency here in the United States as opposed to other parts of the world. “When you invite an au pair into your home, programs like these assure that you leave your children in the most capable hands possible. It is comforting as a parent to know that your children are with a caregiver you can trust.”

Elkins suggests these safety tips for local families learned in our aupair meeting:

  • Test smoke alarms once a month and replace batteries once a year

  • Make sure you have a fire alarm on every floor of your home

  • Plan fire escape routes for your family and identify a meeting place outside the home in case of an emergency

  • Keep matches, gasoline, and all flammable materials locked away and out of a child’s reach

  • Never leave cooking food unattended

  • Introduce children to a firefighter, so they will know not to be scared in the case of a fire

  • Avoid plugging several appliance chords into the same electrical socket

  • Consider buying safety ladders for upper levels of your home and show older children how to use them
